Multiparametric Analysis of Aquatic Organisms Using Flow Cytometry
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Environmental research on aquatic microorganisms, such as phytoplankton, aquatic bacteria, and aquatic viruses, often takes advantage of their natural chlorophyll, phycobilins, and other intrinsic fluorescent pigments. Although epifluorescence microscopy is still used frequently, flow cytometry has become a key research tool due to its ability to provide multiparametric analysis at the single-cell level.

Variable selection and multivariate methods for the identification of microorganisms by flow cytometry.
BACKGROUND When exploited fully, flow cytometry can be used to provide multiparametric data for each cell in the sample of interest. While this makes flow cytometry a powerful technique for discriminating between different cell types, the data can be difficult to interpret. Traditionally, dual-parameter plots are used to visualize flow cytometric data, and for a data set consisting of seven par...
متن کاملFlow cytometry in the analysis of cellular populations
Flow cytometry has become a valuable tool in cell biology. By analyzing large number of cells individually using light-scatter and fluorescence measurements, this technique reveals both cellular characteristics and the levels of cellular components. Flow cytometry has been developed to rapidly enumerate cells and to distinguish among different cell stages and structures using multiple staining....
متن کاملMultiparametric analysis of apoptosis by flow and image cytometry.
Flow cytometric assays for apoptosis are now in widespread use. The multiparametric nature of flow cytometry allows multiple assays for several apoptotic characteristics to be combined in a single sample, providing a powerful tool for elucidating the complex progression of apoptotic death in a variety of cell types. This chapter describes one such assay, allowing simultaneous analysis of caspas...
متن کاملRelationship between minimal residual disease measured by multiparametric flow cytometry prior to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and outcome in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
BACKGROUND The presence of minimal residual disease detected by polymerase chain reaction techniques prior to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has proven to be an independent prognostic factor for poor outcome in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. DESIGN AND METHODS The aim of this study was to ascertain whether the presence of minimal residual disease detected by m...
متن کاملThe relevance of flow cytometry for biochemical analysis.
Flow cytometry (FCM) allows the simultaneous measurement of multiple fluorescences and light scatter induced by illumination of single cells or microscopic particles in suspension, as they flow rapidly through a sensing area. In some systems, individual cells or particles may be sorted according to the properties exhibited. By using appropriate fluorescent markers, FCM is unique in that multipl...
